This year, the three categories for the Volvo Padel Open are Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, acknowledging the improved skill level among padel enthusiasts since last year’s tournament while giving new recreational players an introduction to competitive play.
For the Beginner category, the Volvo Padel Open 2025 offers participants more time to compete by introducing the “americano” format for qualifying rounds. Participants register as individuals but take turns partnering with others in their group, accumulating team points with every match.
Only the 16 top male and female players in this category will be paired up through men’s and women’s divisions in the semifinals, giving participants more chances to experience diverse styles of gameplay with different players.
On the other hand, participants in the Intermediate and Advanced categories will register as teams from the start, choosing between men’s and mixed divisions. Qualifiers will be played as round-robin matches in sets of up to five games, advancing to elimination matches played in sets of up to seven games before the finals are played in a full match format.
To ensure fair matches for all, participants in the Beginner and Intermediate categories this year will have to undergo mandatory player assessments by professional coaches to verify their actual skill levels.
Like last year, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering complimentary coaching clinics for participants in the Beginner and Intermediate categories for players to gain confidence and useful tips prior to the tournament. Held over one-hour sessions in groups of four players, the clinics aim to improve player skills and tactics.
The finals for all categories will be held at Joy Division Padel’s new premises at Jalan Penchala, Petaling Jaya (JOY2) boasting two tournament-level courts. The finals are open to public spectators with complimentary hospitality only for all Volvo Padel Open participants.
This year, the Volvo Padel Open is proud to have official sponsors Tactical Padel for official tournament balls, merchandise, and winner prizes, Glacéau vitaminwater as the official energy drink courtesy of Coca-Cola Malaysia, and Directors’ ThinkTank as the creative production partner.
