Volvo Champions Padel Again with Malaysia’s Largest Padel Tournament

Volvo Car Malaysia is bringing back the Volvo Padel Open, boasting new match formats, more categories, and a focus on new and upcoming players to champion a growing and thriving local padel community.

With activities scheduled every weekend from 21 June to the grand finals on 27 July, the Volvo Padel Open is the largest padel tournament in Malaysia and aims to attract up to 320 players from beginners who have just picked up the sport to advanced enthusiasts who have recently competed in regional tournaments.

Patricia Yaw, Marketing Operations & Public Relations Director of Volvo Car Malaysia shared, "When players think of Volvo, they think of padel, especially since our brand and the sport have been synonymous with the Volvo Padel Open. We’re glad to champion padel with its emphasis on social inclusivity, a vibrant and tight-knit community, constant innovation and technology – all values we share in Volvo Cars.”

“We have engaged with the growing community of local padel enthusiasts since last year’s tournament and are committed to making the second edition an even better experience with exciting prizes and sponsors, padel clinics by experienced coaches, new match formats, and more time on the court especially for new players to gain experience and meet others in the community,” Yaw added.

With roots in the 1960s, padel is widely hailed as the fastest-growing sport globally with 25 million players across 110 countries, attracting many new players since arriving on Malaysian shores with its fast, modern gameplay and focus on camaraderie as a doubles game.

The Volvo Padel Open will be held with last year’s padel club partners Padelground and PadelKu and welcomes new club Joy Division Padel as its latest partner addition. This year’s participants can also look forward to complimentary coaching clinics before the tournament, a stylish Volvo sports kit, court-side access to the grand finals and exclusive Volvo hospitality.

Sean U’ren-Szeto, General Manager of Joy Division Padel, said, “We are proud to be a new partner of the Volvo Padel Open as we see the remarkable talent of local players whom we have hosted for competitive training and regional-level tournaments. We are excited to support the next generation of homegrown padel champions by growing the community, upskilling players, and exposing more Malaysians to a higher level of competition.”

Thomas Ryard, Co-director of Padelground, commented, “Padel’s vibrant lifestyle and dynamic gameplay are the reasons we see more players on our courts, especially since the Volvo Padel Open. With a gentle learning curve and strong social aspect, it attracts trendsetters, fitness enthusiasts, socialites, and people from all walks of life, and that’s why we are proud to be part of the tournament again to welcome more players to the sport, as the best padel games are measured in smiles, not points.”

Charl Hermus Marais, Operations Director of PadelKu, added, “As an ongoing club partner of the Volvo Padel Open, we’ve seen a significant improvement in the level of play among Malaysian padel enthusiasts since last year’s tournament. Our goal is to continue elevating the game with our team of coaches across three locations, including our latest Megah club in Petaling Jaya, giving participants at this year’s Volvo Padel Open the skills and tactics to bring out their best in the competitive gameplay we endorse.”

Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to participate in Malaysia’s first-ever and largest padel tournament. Registration will open on 3 June until 3 July, or until slots are full.
