PROTON grows ASEAN EV presence with Brunei Distributor appointment

PROTON has taken another step forward in its regional export strategy with the appointment of Grand Motors Sdn Bhd as the authorised distributor of Proton e.MAS vehicles in Brunei Darussalam. The appointment expands the international footprint of PROTON’s new-energy vehicle business following the introduction of Proton e.MAS in Singapore, reflecting the company’s ambition to build a stronger presence for Malaysian automotive products in neighbouring markets.

Grand Motors, which has more than 40 years of experience in Brunei’s automotive industry, will be responsible for Proton e.MAS sales, marketing, customer engagement and aftersales support in the country. The company will also operate a dedicated Proton e.MAS showroom and service centre to support customers throughout their EV ownership journey.

The partnership will combine PROTON’s growing capabilities in electrified mobility with Grand Motors’ established local expertise, customer network and aftersales experience. Together, the partnership will provide Bruneians with confidence and reassurance at every stage of ownership, from initial vehicle consideration to servicing and long-term support.

“PROTON is committed to expanding its role in future mobility, both in Malaysia and in export markets,” said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer, Proton International Corporation.

“The appointment of Grand Motors is an important milestone for Proton e.MAS as we continue to build on the success of our EV business and introduce Malaysian-developed mobility solutions to more customers across the region. Brunei is also a natural market for Proton e.MAS.

“It has a clear aspiration to develop a more sustainable transportation ecosystem, while customers are increasingly seeking vehicles that offer advanced technology, high levels of safety and practicality for daily use. Together with Grand Motors, we will deliver a strong and complete ownership experience that makes the transition to EV ownership more accessible and convenient.”

Helping to achieve Brunei’s net-zero carbon emissions target
For Brunei, the introduction of Proton e.MAS will contribute towards the country’s wider vision of achieving net- zero carbon emissions by 2035. By offering a range of accessible electrified vehicles PROTON and Grand Motors aim to help encourage greater EV adoption and support the development of the country’s low-carbon mobility ecosystem.

The Proton e.MAS range will offer Bruneian customers an advanced vehicle proposition built around intelligent technology, modern connectivity, practical everyday usability and a premium safety package. With such a complete package offered, Grand Motor are confident to replicating the success of Proton e.MAS in Malaysia and position it as the number one EV brand in Brunei. Further details on the product line-up, showroom opening and market launch activities will be announced at a later date.

It should also be noted the appointment of Grand Motors applies specifically to Proton e.MAS and its new-energy vehicle range. PAD Motors Sdn Bhd will remain PROTON’s authorised distributor in Brunei for its internal- combustion-engine vehicle line-up, including the Proton Saga, Proton S70, Proton X50, Proton X70 and Proton X90.

With dedicated partners supporting both its conventional and new-energy vehicle businesses, PROTON is well positioned to strengthen its presence in Brunei while offering customers a wider choice of mobility solutions suited to their changing needs.
