For generations, Caltex Malaysia’s iconic star logo specially designed to represent a time-tested commitment to quality fuels and dependable service - has been an instantly recognisable beacon of trust and excellence. Behind the logo, thousands of Caltex employees for the past 90 years have shaped the brand’s journey together, and the brand has cultivated a workplace culture deeply rooted to empower generations of employees to thrive both personally and professionally.
In tandem with this year’s Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebration, Caltex Malaysia is commemorating its landmark 90th anniversary in Malaysia by honouring six long-standing employees who have served as stalwarts of the company. From station operations to corporate strategy, their daily roles and heartwarming career journeys offer an intimate look into the people who shape the future of energy.
“Our 90th anniversary milestone is a testament to the trust of the Malaysian public and the unwavering commitment of our employees and retail partners. As we reflect on nine decades of growth, we celebrate the people and pillars of our organisation who have shaped Caltex Malaysia’s journey and we look forward to 'Moving Every Generation' into a brighter future while upholding our Drive Happiness Further tagline,” said Leong Jee Wong, Country Chairman of Caltex Malaysia.
As a 22-year veteran at Caltex Malaysia, safety is a deeply personal commitment for Ts. Amanina. Navigating the traditionally male-dominated world of operational safety, she started her journey as a young Chemical Engineering graduate and eventually found her breakthrough as a Workforce Safety and Health Specialist supporting operations across the Asia Pacific region.
Ts. Amanina’s work begins before the fuel reaches the pump, as she is at the forefront of safeguarding the unseen logistics behind that journey. Her energy-demanding day revolves around meticulous safety planning for complex operations across the Asia-Pacific region, managing contractors, checking equipment readiness and assessing risks to ensure the right controls are in place. For her, a successful day is measured by the safety conversations and split-second risk assessments to ensure every worker on site returns home safely at the end of their shift.
A key turning point in her career was when she recognised that cultural barriers and a fear of authority could sometimes keep workers from speaking up about potential hazards. Determined to help foster a culture where safety takes precedence, she helped spearhead the “Safety Starts with Me” campaign and strengthened the message of “Stop Work Authority” – empowering every employee and contractor to speak up and pause work if they encounter an unsafe act or condition, with no repercussions for doing the right thing.
“For me, that was a turning point. It reminded me that true safety culture begins when every voice matters. Whether you are a contractor, operator, supervisor, engineer or manager, everyone should have the courage and permission to say, ‘Stop, this does not look safe’,” said Ts. Amanina.
For Ts. Amanina, the most rewarding aspect of her two-decade legacy with Caltex is not found in the technical milestones, but in watching frontline workers and young female engineers gain the confidence to lead, speak up, and protect the lives of their peers every single day.
Yang Way Han, Operations Supervisor (JV Pasir Gudang terminal)
When Yang joined Caltex Malaysia in 1988, it was meant to be a temporary stint. He followed in the footsteps of his father, who had proudly driven Caltex fuel trucks from 1964 until 1987. But what began as a plan to gain quick experience turned into a 38-year career defined by pride and humility.
His journey began at Caltex’s Pulau Indah terminal in Port Klang, where he started as a Utility Man handling labour-intensive operations. Yang quickly realised the grit required behind the scenes to keep the nation running.
“It opened my eyes. The work was physically demanding, and it taught me not to take life for granted and to always provide support in whatever way we can,” remarked Yang.
Guided by supportive supervisors who trusted his potential, he worked his way up to Operations Supervisor for the JV Pasir Gudang terminal in Johor. Today, he leads a team that ensures safe, reliable fuel deliveries to over 80 Caltex stations across the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia. His day begins with ensuring planned fuel deliveries reach customers safely and on schedule. Before trucks head out, he reviews delivery schedules through the Shipment Monitoring Module (SMM), tracking the progress of deliveries and identifying potential delays or disruptions that could affect service stations.
After leaving his government job in 1987, Che Din set out to build his “second home” from the ground up – a Caltex station in a quiet Kelantan town of Pasir Mas. However, adapting to a new field hasn't always been easy.
Throughout the years, Che Din has witnessed significant shifts in customer expectations. Rather than just purely stopping for fuel, today’s visitors expect a more comprehensive experience – fast service, cashless payment options, clean and comfortable facilities, and professional, friendly staff.
For nearly four decades, Che Din’s core strategy has remained anchored in earning genuine community trust. Long before social media, his station thrived on word-of-mouth recommendations, warm smiles, and a team of staff who have stood by his side from opening day all the way into their retirement.
This unwavering foundation enabled him to expand his footprint to two additional Caltex stations – without ever losing the personal warmth that defines them.
“There have certainly been times when I felt stuck, especially when facing various operational hurdles such as manpower challenges, the demand of running a station, pressure to meet sales targets, and other factors beyond our control. But what keeps me strong is the steady support of my staff, Caltex officers, and my family,” said Che Din.
Today, Che Din’s work is driven by that same hands-on dedication. Every morning, he still walks the compound to ensure pristine facilities, greets daily regulars, and reminds his staff to leave personal worries at the door so they can serve every customer with heart.
Harchana a/p Narainasamy, Station Cashier at Caltex Pekan Lama, Sungai Petani
For Harchana who has been part of the Caltex Malaysia family for over eight years, her journey has been about more than just a job. Each day, she finds meaning through the opportunity to touch lives through simple, genuine human connections along the way. Whether navigating a routine morning rush or stepping up to train new team members, she leads with a warm, polite, and sincere attitude.
Over the years, the station has become a familiar part of Harchana’s life, growing alongside her as she built a family of her own.
“I always ensure customers get the help they need, provide clear explanations, and act swiftly whenever issues arise. When customers smile in return, and are satisfied with the service, it gives me such satisfaction,” said Harchana, who is also a mother of two.
During high-pressure moments, especially during the holiday season, Harchana stays grounded alongside a close-knit team that feels more like family to her. Her fondest memories are during those times – when everyone would gather around one table to share a meal together after a long and demanding shift.
Hanis who is a General Helper at Caltex Setiawangsa, helping to fuel up a customer’s car
Since 2006, Caltex provided an inclusive environment where Hanis’ disability was never something to hide. As a General Helper at Caltex Setiawangsa, his day-to-day routine revolves around vital maintenance tasks from maintaining cleanliness and safety across the station forecourt and managing the traffic at the station. From keeping the forecourt in order to ensuring the station is ready to welcome customers throughout the day, his work may often happen behind the scenes, but plays an important part in the everyday station experience.
Being deaf and mute in a fast-paced station environment filled with bustling customer requests, Hanis initially found it challenging to navigate tasks that relied on spoken communication. Yet, he was never left to struggle alone – his teammates stepped in without hesitation.

His meaningful and proudest moments are found in simple, powerful human interactions – a driver’s grateful nod, a warm smile, or a signed "thank you" after he lends a helping hand.
“That is the most meaningful and proud feeling for me,” shared Hanis.
While employees form an important part of Caltex Malaysia’s story, its 90-year journey has also been shaped by longstanding business partners.
Celine Khong’s bond with Caltex Malaysia is familial. When her parents established Chop Yew Lee Group in 1976, Caltex was their very first supplier. As General Manager of Chop Yew Lee today, she celebrates a historic 50-year collaboration in leading the business as a Master Distributor of Caltex lubricants and diesel.
“As the second generation, I am proud to continue the legacy that my parents have built through hard work, integrity, and trust. At the same time, I believe it is essential to balance tradition with innovation. While we honour the principles that have guided our business for the past 50 years, we must also embrace new technologies, digital transformation, and changing customer expectations to remain relevant in an evolving market,” Khong said.
Dedicating the first hour of her day to staying ahead of the curve, Khong brings herself up to speed by checking industry news and market trends in the lubricants and energy sector. The ritual allows her to understand market demands and ensures her team delivers tailored, high-value solutions.
Beyond supplying high-quality products, through her interactions with Caltex, Khong formed genuine friendships defined by empathy, shared values, and unforgettable personal touches –from joint industry seminars to having her birthday celebrated alongside the Caltex team during a Retail Convention dinner.
From dedicated frontline workers to multi-generational business partners, Caltex Malaysia achieving 90 years of excellence is a testament to a workplace culture where every voice matters. Looking into the future, the company continues its mission of “Moving Every Generation” for all Malaysians.
